Some jobs offer a very technical field with technical requirements but not a tech company.  Tech culture is not present and a programmer usually suffers.

Never take a replacement job.  The guy who left for another job mostly has good reasons to leave.

You'll mostly end up following in the shadow of his code or cursing him for coding it as it is.
